Rooms & Suites
Marriott has done a good job keeping the Courtyard brand’s rooms feeling modern. You get a king or two queens, an ergonomic workspace, a 55-inch TV, a Keurig coffee maker, and the Courtyard’s signature comfortable bedding. Rooms are a reasonable size for downtown Austin — not sprawling, but not cramped either.
The bathrooms are updated with walk-in showers in some rooms and tub/shower combos in others. Toiletries are the standard Marriott products (formerly Bath & Body Works, now their own brand). The rooms facing the city offer decent views, especially from higher floors.
Sound insulation is adequate — you might hear hallway noise on busy conference nights, but street noise is generally well-managed. The rooms with convention center views are somewhat less interesting than those facing the downtown skyline, but they tend to be quieter.
Location
The hotel sits on East 4th Street, putting the Austin Convention Center within a 5-minute walk. That makes it an obvious choice during SXSW, ACL, and the dozens of annual conventions and tech conferences. 6th Street’s various entertainment districts (Dirty 6th, West 6th) are a short walk north. Rainey Street, with its bar-houses and food trucks, is a 10-minute walk east.
Lady Bird Lake is about 5 blocks south — an easy walk or jog along the trail. The Capitol is visible to the northwest. You’re firmly in the center of downtown Austin, which means everything is accessible but parking is expensive and traffic during events is brutal.
For dining, you’re in great shape. Within a 10-minute walk: Odd Duck, Uchi, Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill, and dozens of other restaurants. This is one of the densest restaurant neighborhoods in the city.

The Bistro is the Courtyard brand’s restaurant concept — part Starbucks, part casual dining. It serves a hot breakfast (not free — around $15-18) that’s better than average hotel breakfast fare. The dinner menu covers basic American options that are fine when you don’t feel like venturing out, but with this location, you should venture out.
The bar area serves cocktails, beer, and wine in the evenings. It’s serviceable for a nightcap but won’t compete with the dozens of excellent bars within walking distance. During conference periods, the lobby bar gets packed with networking professionals — which is either a perk or a drawback depending on your mood.

The fitness center is one of the better hotel gyms I’ve used at this price point — good selection of cardio machines, free weights, and enough space that you don’t feel crowded. There’s no pool, which is a significant miss for a 300-room downtown hotel. For a city where summer temperatures regularly hit 100°F, the lack of a pool hurts.
Valet parking at $42/night is painful but typical for downtown. There’s no self-park option at the hotel, though public garages nearby run $15-25/day. The business center has what you’d expect. Meeting rooms are available for small groups.
Marriott Bonvoy points work here, and the hotel occasionally has decent redemption rates. If you’re a Bonvoy loyalist, this is a straightforward earn-and-burn property.
