Hyatt Regency is a luxurious lakeside hotel just across the lake from downtown Austin. The location allows for an easy walk to South Congress shopping and dining or over the bridge to 2nd Street District. It is a really pretty part of Austin, next to Auditorium Shores and Lady Bird Lake. So, of course, it’s popular with couples and families. Many of the rooms facing the lake have romantic private balconies with nighttime views of the city skyline. It’s magical on the Fourth of July and New Year’s Eve when the City of Austin puts on a magnificent fireworks display.
The hotel is older than many in Austin, having opened its doors in 1982, but it was extensively renovated in 2016. Hence, it feels nice and modern and is in excellent condition throughout. The rooms start at 300 sq ft which is a little more generous than average. However, corner suites are a little larger and have magnificent views. The rooms feel luxurious, and the bathrooms are clean and modern. It’s an enjoyable place to spend time, not just a place to sleep.
Hyatt Regency has a fitness center and a terrific pool with fabulous views across the lake to the city. Marker 10 offers cocktails, craft beer, and wine, as well as casual dining with views of the lake and city lights twinkling through the trees at night. More formal dining is available at SWB in the atrium on level 2. While on the ground floor, a Starbucks will give you your morning fix.
Overall, Hyatt Regency is a well-priced, luxury hotel in an excellent location. There are many newer hotels in Austin, but not many that are better. It is a great pick for a holiday in Austin.
